Caitlin Silliman on Catch A Star AKA Hoku- Journey to Rolex 2015 #RoadtoRolex
Hoku and I are getting ready for our third trip to Rolex, and I am hoping that this will be our year. We have had a terrific Winter season leading up to this point and Hoku is feeling better than ever. We will compete at our last prep run at The Fork CIC3* in just a few weeks. I am aiming to be competitive there as it is our dress rehearsal for Rolex. Even though I have been through the Rolex preparation before, it is still just as stressful if not more. For me, the hardest part is know when to back of training in the final weeks. During the last week before you ship to Kentucky, it's hard not to drill the horses because you want to perfect everything. In reality, they are not going to get any more trained in the final week and in the long run will perform better if they are a bit fresh and ready for the big week ahead.
Hoku and I have been through more than most which is why we have such a special relationship. I took care of her during her painful recovery from the barn fire and she rehabbed me from my traumatic brain injury. The trust that we have for each other is really strong and since starting our partnership in 2010 we know each other very well. My favorite phase on her is cross country, because she really lives for it. Her confidence on course makes me really believe in what we can do together.
