Liz Halliday-Sharp on Fernhill by Night and HHS Cooley - Journey to Rolex 2015 #RoadtoRolex
I feel as if I have been ready to take on a 4* for nearly 10 years, but I have just not had things fall into place before and have not always had the right horses for the job based on soundness, etc. I feel very lucky that I have now had the chance to produce two top horses up to this level, and one of them will be taking on his first 4* at Rolex.
Fernhill By Night, known to his friends as "Blackie," is very different from most top horses in that he is very laid back, chilled out and is super sweet and cuddly. He is a really big horse that had some mistakes on his record before I got him 2.5 years ago, but I always knew he was incredibly talented, and I have always believed in his ability to be a 4* horse! We have worked hard to develop and solidify our partnership first at 2*, and then at 3* level, and he has had some really great results around some tough tracks in Europe over the last couple years.
After living in England for the last 15 years, it has been really cool to spend the winter in Florida and to be back competing in the USA again. It has also been my dream to compete at Rolex ever since I went to watch the inaugural CCI4* there in 1998 and it is amazing to finally be on the entry list - Go Blackie Go!
